Craig Bellamy: "We can still win the league"
CRAIG Bellamy has delivered a tub-thumping pre-Christmas message by declaring Cardiff City have nothing to fear in the Championship.
The Bluebirds skipper is adamant City can win the League in 2011, but he does admit there needs to be a tinkering with the route one tactics the team have used in recent games.
Bellamy reckons a more patient, passing approach would get the best out of himself and the other gifted individuals in Jones’ team.
Addressing a wide range of issues, City favourite Bellamy says:
City should not only be looking for promotion, but to actually win the League with their glittering squad;
He has seen little in the division to worry him and is adamant leaders QPR can be overhauled;
One or two new signings could be brought in during the January transfer window to bolster that title bid;
There isn’t a rift in the camp, Bellamy claiming maybe the players ‘should have more arguments’;
The players need to work harder when not in possession and take more responsibility when they do have the ball;
City need to develop their game and not just be prepared to lump the ball forward from front to back.
“I watched Barcelona against Real Madrid and people talk about how good they were on the ball. But a major factor in their performance was that as soon as they lost possession they won it back as quickly as possible,” said Bellamy.
“For us that has been a problem over the last few weeks and is one of the reasons we haven’t been playing as well as we can.
“We would certainly be helped from building up play a bit more, bringing the full-backs into play, then going into midfield and building up play.
“Maybe I could drop off into certain areas and try to make things happen, but if I drop off and it goes forward quickly where am I? I have to be there for the flick-ons.
“Do I want to chase flick-ons all day long? Of course I don’t, I would rather have the ball played to feet. But we have to find the right balance.”
